New transplant research -- No immunosuppresants!?

According to some research published in the NEJM, some doctors are experimenting with doing bone marrow transplantation along with kidney transplants in order to change the recipient's immune system and avoid the need for immunosuppressive drugs! Check it out:

Sounds like cadaver receivers may be out of luck for this sort of procedure, but hopefully they will do some studies with live donor recipients going back to get the marrow transplant after the fact. I would certainly consider volunteering for a study like that. I'll have to bring it up at clinic next time.

i'm newly diagnosed. does anyone have early onset arthritis,dej.disc dis.,scoliosis,heart valve problems along with pckd type dominant? just curious. how are the docs treating your pain? i'm disabled as of 2006? thanks
